Pediatric Health

I believe that true "root cause" and preventative medicine starts with a child. The nutritional and lifestyle habits that are set in the early years can set a person up for a lifetime of wellness.

During my clinical internship, I was selected for the pediatric focus shift at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic and this further affirmed the truth of these statements. Kids are extremely resilient, so with the right support, they can thrive.

Well Child Visits

Regular check-ins for healthy children are very important. These visits are 45 minutes long to allow enough time to monitor growth and development, optimize your child’s health, and prevent future disease. Parents are also able to get extra support with nutrition, changes in sleep, toilet training, and knowing what to expect for the next ages and stages.

Regular visits with a Naturopathic Doctor can be done in tandem with pediatrician appointments. Visits are scheduled according to the Canadian Pediatric Society's recommended well-child checkup schedule: newborn, 1 week, 2 weeks, 2, 4, 6, 9 months for the first year, then 12, 18 months for the 2nd year of life.  Annual visits thereafter until the age of 18.

Common Pediatric Conditions I See in Practice

  • Skin concerns (eczema, acne, diaper rash, cradle cap, psoriasis)

  • Immune support (reducing infection frequency and severity during the school year)

  • Digestive health (constipation, diarrhea, IBS, stomach upset, reflux)

  • Mental health (anxiety, depression)

  • ADHD, Autism

  • Recurrent infections (ear, lung, skin, urinary, tonsilitis)

  • Asthma and allergies

Acute Visits

Through the Clarkson Family Naturopathic clinic, I run the Virtual Naturopathic Kids Walk-In Hours. These are quick, 15-minute, VIRTUAL, same-day appointments for non-emergent illnesses like:

  • cold/flu + fever management + sore throat + cough

  • bumps and bruises

  • ear infection

  • urinary tract infection

  • teething

  • sinus infection

  • acute stomach upset

These appointments are "single concern" visits which means they do not go in depth on illness.
