Hormonal Health

Hormones are chemical messengers produced by various endocrine glands in our bodies - some of these glands can include the thyroid, adrenals, pancreas, and female or male reproductive system. These messengers can regulate many bodily functions such as appetite, metabolism, heart rate, sleep patterns, reproduction, and mood.

When we are not feeling like ourselves, hormonal dysregulation is often blamed for this. Some common symptoms that people experience, prompting them to assess their hormones, are:

  • fatigue

  • weight changes (gain or loss)

  • mood changes (anxiety or depression)

  • difficulty sleeping

  • skin and hair changes, such as new onset acne or hair loss/growth

  • changes to libido, thirst/appetite, blood pressure

Some common conditions that I see in practice are:

  • Burnout

  • PMS/PMDD

  • PCOS

  • Endometriosis and Adenomyosis

  • Perimenopause

  • Thyroid imbalances (hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's, Grave's)

  • Challenges conceiving or recurrent miscarriage

Getting to the root cause of your chief complaint does not only require proper and thorough assessment of symptoms and health history, but also a review of current nutrition, digestive health, lifestyle, sleep, energy, and menstrual history (if applicable). After reviewing all of these areas, the most appropriate treatment options that are tailored to the individual can be determined.
